These coal miner houses may have been built by Zenith Coal & Coke Co. Zenith began mining coal at Crumpler in 1904. In 1916 Zentih sold the Crumpler coal mines to United Pocahontas Coal. Co., who finally closed the mines in 1983.

Abandoned church.

However, this church is still operating. The brick part may have been the Crumpler coal mine office. A 1991 WV historic inventory describes such a brick building as existing then.

The state historic inventory also showed this tipple remanant that was extant then but gone now.
