Part of an old mine opening. Black Mountain Coal Co. was a subsidiary of
Peabody Coal Co. As you can see this was Mine No. 30 in the Darby coal seam. Nearby No. 31 and No. 32 were opened a few years later.
Peabody marketed their coal under the trade name "Great Heart."
Remaining Kenvir coal camp housing.
The name Kenvir is a combination of Kentucky and Virginia.
Peabody Coal closed the Kenvir mines in 1958.
