PIERCE, WV
This was another Davis Coal & Coke coal mine and coal camp in Tucker County, WV. They designated
this one their No. 40 coal mine.
Abandoned company house in Pierce, W.Va. illustrates the building materials used by the coal company. This is the same style of home that Davis C&C
used at nearby Thomas/Coketon.
There are only a few houses left in Pierce, and none of the coal mining complex is extant.
This was the "Italian Band" in Pierce many years ago. In all of the Upper Potomac Coalfield I would say that the Thomas-Coketon-Pierce area
attracted the most Italian immigrants. St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic church was founded in Thomas, WV in 1893 and remained an active parish into
the 21st Century.
