PIERCE, WV

This was another Davis Coal & Coke coal mine and coal camp in Tucker County, WV. They designated this one their No. 40 coal mine.

Image source forgotten This was the "Italian Band" in Pierce many years ago. In all of the Upper Potomac Coalfield I would say that the Thomas-Coketon-Pierce area attracted the most Italian immigrants. St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic church was founded in Thomas, WV in 1893 and remained an active parish into the 21st Century.
