A coal camp adjacent to Kimball, WV which was built in 1915 by Houston Collieries Company. From 1935 until 1947 the operator was Koppers Coal Co., and finally Eastern Fuel & Gas
Associates, who closed the Carswell mines in 1953.

The unique company store at Carswell. It was originally the Houston Collieres Company store, and later was one of the Koppers
stores.
These were a decent quality of coal company house by Southern W.Va. standards.
This large home was built for the owner of Houston Collieries Company.
